The independent association between a baseline procalcitonin level > 4.24 ng/mL and the risk of 50-day in-hospital mortality, in logistic regression analysis, was maintained even after adjusting for C-reactive protein (mg/L) and sepsis status at admission (OR, 2.63; 95% CI, 1.37–5.03; P = 0.004) (Supplemental Table S2).
