A list of potential key genes during the transition towards a failing state of cardiomyocytes was obtained based on multiple lines of evidence from independent analyses (Fig. 2j), the majority of which have not been implicated in heart failure or cardiac hypertrophy before, such as FGF12 and CREB5. Notably, the expression of FGF12 in HCM decreased along the trajectory towards the failing state (Fig. 2k). Here, CREB5 is linked to cardiac hypertrophy.
