When the secretion of IL-6 increases in some diseases associated with bone loss, such as periodontitis, peri-implantitis, and osteoporosis, binding of IL-6 to its receptor, IL-6R, promotes homodimerization of GP130, which then activates downstream signal transduction to cause bone resorption [8, 9].
