Treatment guidelines for HBV in Ghana recommend that treatment be initiated in the following categories of patients: all patients with chronic active HBV infection (HBeAg-negative chronic HBV (ALT > 2 × ULN and HBV DNA > 2000 IU/mL) or HBeAg-positive chronic HBV (ALT > 2 × ULN and HBV DNA > 20,000 IU/mL) and all HBV-related cirrhosis or advanced fibrosis (APRI score > 2) patients with detectable viraemia [10].
