In type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1), proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to elucidate the effect of NF1 mutation on the GABAergic function and revealed a significant decrease in cortical GABA concentrations in NF1 patients compared to healthy controls; thus, clarifying the mediating role of GABAergic dysfunction on cognitive impairments observed in NF1 patients [35]. Here, NF1 is linked to neurofibromatosis type 1.
