The neuropathology of AD is characterized by the extracellular accumulation of amyloid plaques, consisting of the Aβ peptides Aβ40 and Aβ42 generated by the cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP), and intra-neuronal deposition of neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) composed of hyperphosphorylated tau protein (p-tau) [5]. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
