SALL4 and Okihiro syndrome: Some Okihiro syndrome patients have a presentation similar to thalidomide embryopathy (Kohlhase et al, 2003); consistent with this, SALL4 is a cellular target of thalidomide, which facilitates binding of SALL4 to the CLR4CRBN E3 ubiquitin ligase that ubiquitylates SALL4 and leads to its destruction (Donovan et al, 2018; Matyskiela et al, 2018, 2020).
