In one of those papers, there was no meaningful difference in blood MIF levels between days 0, 2, and 5 in sepsis survivors (p = 0.196) and nonsurvivors (p = 0.105)8, whereas in another study, high incremental increases in blood MIF levels between days 1 and 2 were associated with higher mortality in severely septic patients9.
