The cellular proteins that are proposed as EBV receptors in epithelium are integrins alpha V (ITGαV), beta 1 (ITGß1), beta 6 (ITGß6), as well as the non-integrin proteins neuropilin 1 (NRP1) and ephrin A2 (EphA2) based largely on studies in cell lines such as HEK293 cells or EBV-negative cell lines derived from nasopharyngeal carcinoma [21,31–36]. The gene discussed is EFNA2; the disease is nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
