The relationship between osteoclast-inducing cytokines released by carcinomas, such as parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-11, and bone invasion in patients with OSCC has been reported.[11–14] However, there have been no reports on the relationship between vertical carcinoma invasion, precisely, progression to the bone marrow, or limitation to the cortical bone. This evidence concerns the gene IL11 and carcinoma.
