Differential gene expression analysis of IL-10–producing Foxp3–CD4+ T cells — referred to so far as Tr1 cells — revealed that IL10 was more highly expressed in the cells from the NAFLD patients, while the chemokine receptor gene CXCR3 was significantly overexpressed in IL-10–producing Foxp3–CD4+ T cells derived from NASH patients (Figure 3B). Here, CD4 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
