These IsoLG-containing immune cells infiltrate the perivascular space and kidneys and secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-1β and IL-6 from the APCs and IFN-γ and IL-17A from the T cells, resulting in vascular and kidney dysfunction and ensuing hypertension (Figure 1) (Kirabo et al., 2014; Barbaro et al., 2017).
