INS and diabetes mellitus: Regarding biochemical parameters, subjects with DM showed significantly higher HbA1c values (median 7.45 [5.9-12.2] vs. 5.4 [5.2-5.5] %, p<0.001), higher admission blood glucose (median 156 [114-289] vs. 102 [96-106] mg/dL, p<0.001) and lower serum levels of albumin compared with those who did not require insulin treatment (median 35.1 [27.52-42.97] vs. 39.65 [23.15-43.75] g/L, p=0.01).
