Given these observations, combined with recent evidence which showed that the overexpression of Prdx1 induced by oxidative stress enhanced insulin resistance and the accumulation of lipid droplets in mouse’s HepG2 cells (6), we speculated that Prdx1 might be involved in inflammation, oxidative stress and liver fat deposition in NAFLD patients with obesity. This evidence concerns the gene PRDX1 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
