A systematic review of cannabis derived phytocannabinoids (CDCs) in PD animal models demonstrated neuroprotective effects evidenced by increased dopamine and dopaminergic neurons levels.72 Cannabis was able to reduce losses of dopaminergic neurons73 74 and increase TH-positive neurons.74–76 The authors account these results from CDC’s ability to combat oxidative stress, reduce neuroinflammation and their antiapoptotic effects. The gene discussed is TH; the disease is Parkinson disease.
