Interestingly, SSc patients showed similar levels of CD3-CD56+ NK cells (11.6% vs 11%) compared to HC, but they had an overall reduced frequency of CD3+CD56+ NKT cells (4.1% vs 6%, p<0.05) with a higher percentage of CD38+ cells within this population (10% vs 3.7%, p<0.001; MFI 434.4 vs 158.6 p<0.0001) (Figures 3A, B). The gene discussed is CD38; the disease is systemic sclerosis.
