The placenta undergoes extensive inflammatory changes following ZIKV infection with upregulation of cytokines such as IFN-γ and TNF-α and chemokines such as RANTES (regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted) and VEGFR-2 (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2) [123,124]. This evidence concerns the gene KDR and Zika virus infectious disease.
