Figure 7 shows the interaction between the pancreatic cancer cell line PANC-1 and mesothelial cell line MET5A. Loss of ALCAM in both mesothelial cells and pancreatic cancer cell line PANC-1 was able to ameliorate the adhesion of pancreatic cancer cells to mesothelial cells. This interaction could be blocked by sALCAM. On the other hand, MIA PaCa-2 cells, which expressed low levels of ALCAM, became more adhesive to the mesothelial cells following overexpression of ALCAM (Figure 8). The gene discussed is ALCAM; the disease is familial pancreatic carcinoma.
