The high activities of 2a and 2b against HCT-116 p53-knockout cells is remarkable in the light of a growing number of promising MDM2-inhibitory imidazolines, i.e., the “nutlins”, and of indoles, which activate p53 by blocking its interaction with its negative regulator MDM2 to enforce apoptosis in cancer cells [30,31]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is cancer.
