Although over 30 ALS-related genes have been identified, the majority of fALS forms are caused by mutations in genes encoding superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), transactive response (TAR)-DNA binding protein 43 (TARDBP), fused in sarcoma (FUS), and chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9ORF72) [6,7]. This evidence concerns the gene FUS and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
