Reduced BMAL1 expression has been reported to cause increased vascular uptake of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), induce endothelial cell dysfunction, and expression adhesion factors and pro-inflammatory mediators, leading to peripheral arterial disease [20].In addition, it was found that impaired BMAL1 expression and function in the liver can disrupt glucose metabolism homeostasis leading to chronic hepatic metabolic diseases [21]. Here, BMAL1 is linked to peripheral arterial disease.
