FASN and neoplasm: The existence of higher activity of lipogenic enzymes such as HMGCR (and other enzymes e.g., Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), fatty acid synthase (FASN), etc.)[24] and higher secretion of PCSK9, which is known to be involved in the degradation of lipoprotein receptors and keeping excessive lipid uptake at bay may, reflect a specific feature of tumor cells to rely preferably on the endogenous synthesis of lipids instead of the uptake from the outside [24].
