In the state of inadequate sleep duration, the levels of hormones and pro-inflammatory factors show a declining trend [such as testosterone and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)] (Chennaoui et al., 2020; Su et al., 2021), and the synthesis of muscle protein gets weakened, thereby affecting the skeletal muscle mass and developing into sarcopenia. This evidence concerns the gene IGF1 and sarcopenia.
