All laboratory parameters upon admission, including C-reactive protein (CRP) (patients with type 2 diabetes: 4.5 mg/dL vs. patients without type 2 diabetes: 3.6 mg/dL, p = 0.441), and ferritin (patients with type 2 diabetes: 491 ng/mL vs. patients without type 2 diabetes: 511 ng/mL, p = 0.252), were comparable between the patients with and without type 2 diabetes, but HbA1c levels were found to differ more significantly (patients with type 2 diabetes: 7.4% vs. patients without type 2 diabetes: 5.9%, p < 0.001). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
