TGFB1 and infection: After an acute SARS-COV-2 infection, there are clinical and viral risk factors (including SARS COV-2 Viral proteins, mRNA vaccins, exposure and recurrent exposure to SARS-COV-2 virus, other infections, toxic drugs and genetics), mediators of thrombus remodeling [i.e., IL-8, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β], hypoxia, immunological and inflammatory mediators, and defects in fibrinolysis that combine to determine whether the thrombotic material resolves or becomes a collagen-rich vascular scar.
