The mitochondrial outer membrane is a platform for signal transduction of the mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS) and the NLRP3 inflammasome.[22] As a mitochondrial related adaptor molecule, MAVS mediates the recruitment of the NLRP3 to mitochondria, activation of NLRP3 inflammasome, and promotion of IL-1β production.[23] This study analyzed the effects of NLRP3 and MAVS polymorphisms on the risk of asthma. The gene discussed is MAVS; the disease is asthma.
