Features of the hepatotoxic CD8+ T cell population in CHB patients are in line with those of other liver diseases; for example, CXCR6+CD8+ T cells with both high activation levels and immune checkpoint expression were linked to liver damage in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (40) and to hepatocellular carcinoma (41). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
