The side effect of SGLT2 inhibitors on bone metabolism in patients with T2DM remains controversial (13, 14): the CANVAS study reported canagliflozin possible increased risk of fracture compared to placebo (15), but the CREDENCE study showed no evidence that the fracture risk observed was related to the treatment of canagliflozin (16). The gene discussed is SLC5A2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
