Integrins such as α4β7, αEβ7, and α4β1 and their ligands are involved in the progression of multiple sclerosis by modulating the processes of immune cells.545 B cells, neutrophils, and macrophages express high amounts of αMβ2, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-IgG enhances αMβ2-mediated adhesion to fibrinogen in systemic lupus erythematosus.546 Inhibition of the α1β1 interaction with collagen leads to reduced accumulation of epidermal T cells, and the presence of anti-α6-integrin autoantibodies due to altered laminin integrity has been observed in psoriasis.547,548.
