Chen et al.3demonstrated that severe anemia (Hb <7.0 g/dl) during pregnancy is significantly associated with preeclampsia and eclampsia (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 3.74, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.90–4.81 in nulliparous and aOR 3.45, 95% CI 2.79–4.25 in multiparous women). The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is anemia (phenotype).
