While a previous study reported that intermediate monocyte (CD14+CD16+) counts were comparable amongst AP patients and healthy controls within 24 or 72 h of disease onset (97), a more recent study demonstrated that the percentage of intermediate monocytes was reduced in MAP patients compared with healthy controls within 24 h of admission (mean, 2.4% vs. 3.1%, respectively) (127). Here, CD14 is linked to alkaline phosphatase measurement.
