Multiple immunological abnormalities have been reported in T1D patients including autoantibody production against the insulin molecule, the 65 kD isoform of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65), various islet antigens, and the zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8) as well as decreased regulatory T cell (Treg) capacity to suppress T-cell mediated destruction of the islets of Langerhans3. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
