It is thus speculated that the combination of methylation inhibitors, which remove DNA methylation from the SEPT4/ARTS promoter, with genotoxic agents, which induce p53 activation (Hao et al., 2021b), could be a more effective approach for the treatment of cancers, such as leukemia, which sustain wild-type p53 and lower levels of ARTS, by inducing ARTS expression and ARTS-dependent apoptosis.
