WNT2 and mucopolysaccharidosis type 6: The Wnt signaling pathway plays a crucial role in bone and cartilage development (Narcisi et al., 2015; Kobayashi et al., 2016; Usami et al., 2016), and downregulation of Wnt2 and beta-catenin can inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis (You et al., 2004; Pu et al., 2009; Zimmerman et al., 2013), suggesting that chondrogenic cells with MPS VI undergo impaired chondrogenic development and reduced cell proliferation via intereference with Wnt signalling.
