INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: The results from three available studies examining the effects of 8 g spirulina supplementation for 12 weeks reported contradictory results, with two studies showing no changes in fasting blood glucose in elderly and people with type 2 diabetes [15,16], and no changes in fasting insulin levels and HbA1c in people with type 2 diabetes [16]; one study showed decreased fasting blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes after spirulina supplementation [31].
