Although ALT and AST are considerate liver enzymes, they also may be found in extrahepatic tissues [21,22,23], therefore patients with severe forms of COVID-19 pneumonia may be expected to have increase in serum transaminase values; however, the presence of pneumonia alone cannot explain the increased transaminase values in patients with mild or moderate forms of COVID-19, associated in some cases with increase in ALP, TB or GGT, consistent with data published by Huang et al.
