Colchicine is an established anti-inflammatory drug, which attenuates NLRP3 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-, leucine-rich repeat-, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3) inflammasome–mediated crystal-induced inflammation present in gout attributable to uric acid crystals and atherosclerosis attributable to cholesterol crystals (Martínez et al., 2018; Opstal et al., 2020) [56,57]. Here, NLRP3 is linked to atherosclerosis.
