We have here assessed the acute effects of the drug on both superoxide and hydrogen peroxide generation in human atrial samples harvested from overweight patients with no diabetes applied at 10 μM concentration (close to the steady-state plasma concentration) in conditions that mimic the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) activation, acute inflammation, and uncontrolled hyperglycemia. This evidence concerns the gene REN and diabetes mellitus.
