Epidemiological studies have identified the following three major categories of risk factors for AMI: unchangeable factors (age, gender, and family history); variable factors (smoking, alcohol intake, lack of exercise, poor diet, high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and metabolism syndrome); and emerging factors (abnormal levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, coronary artery calcification (CAC), homocysteine, and lipoprotein(a)) [3]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and metabolic syndrome.
