Using in vitro and ex vivo approaches, van Dijk et al. [7,9] showed that the risk allele (Y153H) of the preeclampsia susceptibility gene STOX1 negatively regulates trophoblast invasion by upregulating the cell–cell adhesion protein alpha-T-catenin (CTNNA3) [19]. Here, STOX1 is linked to preeclampsia.
