We have previously demonstrated that high levels of TNF-related biomarkers such as TNF, progranulin (PGRN) [2], and TNF receptors (TNFRs) [3,4,5] predict future eGFR decline in both diabetic and non-diabetic CKD patients independent of traditional renal measures such as albuminuria and eGFR. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
