Finally, the fat mass and obesity-associated FTO gene, coding an alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase and mRNA (2′-O-Methyladenosine-N(6)-)-demethylase involved in adipogenesis and epitranscriptome regulation, has been recently demonstrated to be a direct target gene positively regulated by Zfp217 [13]. The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
