This motif, which is not present in other beta-coronaviruses, is highly similar in both sequence and structure to the bacterial superantigen, Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) (27), and mediates high-affinity, non-specific binding to T-cell receptors, as well as TCR skewing, which has been reported in adults with severe COVID-19, suggesting immune fingerprints of host responses to SAg (27). The gene discussed is SETBP1; the disease is COVID-19.
