SREBF1 and fatty liver disease: LXR/SREBP pathway plays a major role in hepatic steatosis, as LXRs contribute to activation of transcription of enzymes related to the synthesis of fatty acids, including the fatty acid synthase (FAS), acetyl coenzyme A acid enzymes (ACC), and SREBP-1c, and upregulation of the expression of CYP7A1, which participates in oxidative conversion of cholesterol to bile acids (81).
