BCL2 and acute myeloid leukemia: Recently, the combination treatment of azacitidine plus venetoclax, a selective inhibitor for an anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 that is overexpressed and is a critical cause of drug resistance in AML [4, 5], showed promising clinical response and prolonged the survival of AML patients compared to the azacitidine monotherapy treated group [6], resulting in approval by the Food and Drug Administration.
