IL-6 levels were found to be fivefold higher in septic shock patients, and 2.7-fold higher in sepsis patients, compared with patients with infection (319.00 pg/mL [105.1–1870.00] and 166.70 pg/mL [56.98–1033.00] vs 61.81 pg/mL [21.56–370.5]; p < 0.01 and p < 0.05) (Fig. 3B).
