MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease: Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of dementia cases; AD is characterized by senile plaques (SPs) that form due to the aggregation of extracellular amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) that are composed of intracellular hyperphosphorylated tau (hp-tau), neuroinflammation and loss of memory-related neurons (Hinz and Geschwind, 2017; Islam and Tabrez, 2017; Iyaswamy et al., 2022; Wang et al., 2022; Yang C. B. et al., 2022; Zhu et al., 2022).
