In a recent study, peiminine was found to reduce 6-hydroxydopamine-induced degeneration of dopaminergic nerve cells in the midbrain substantia nigra and enhance PTEN induced kinase 1 (PINK1)/parkin expression in order to alleviate apoptosis-related protein in the TGF-β signaling pathway (ARTS)-induced degradation of the X-linked apoptosis inhibitor, resulting in the inhibition of 6-hydroxydopamine-induced apoptosis and thus providing new insight that will be useful for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (Hsu et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene PINK1 and Parkinson disease.
