Studies have shown that the regulation of macrophage iron metabolism by SLC11A1 plays an important role in early macrophage activation, and previous studies have also shown that SLC11A1 is expressed only in phagocytes [i.e., monocytes/macrophages and granulocytes (PMNs)], which we also demonstrated in the present study, so to some extent SLC11A1 can reflect the number of macrophages in glioma. This evidence concerns the gene SLC11A1 and central nervous system cancer.
