The results showed neither a significant association of the two loci with the risk of stroke occurrence nor an interaction between the two genetic loci known for obesity in a case-control study; the genotypes GG+GT of rs17817449 at the FTO showed a protective role in the risks of fatal all strokes and fatal ischaemic stroke, while no associations were observed for rs6567160 at the MC4R in a cohort study. This evidence concerns the gene FTO and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
